Del Mar, CA

Del Mar is nestled in Southern California, north of La Jolla and one-hundred miles south of LA. Below we list the top three things to do in Del Mar, CA while you are there:

Head over to the Beach

There are roughly 2 miles of beautiful and sandy beaches in Del Mar, which makes it ideal for enjoying a relaxing picnic, walking, or sunbathing. The most popular is Del Mar’s City Beach, and its northern area between 15th Street and River Mouth is considered the best within the whole area of San Diego, with great swimming and moderate surf.

Bluffs dot the southern part of the beach, and there are many trails that lead down toward the beach. Adjacent to the racetrack is a dog-friendly beach referred to as Dog Beach. It’s located in the spot that the San Dieguito River empties inside the sea, which creates a wide expanse of sand ideal for volleyball.

Visit Del Mar’s Racetrack

Del Mar’s Racetrack, the place in which the “turf meets the surf,” is Del Mar’s Thoroughbred Club track for racing horses. It is among the largest horse racing venues in America and is able to hold almost 50,000 spectators. The horse racing season goes from July to September, and the horse races have become huge social events ever since they opened their doors in 1937. In addition, the racetrack hosts concerts on Fridays upon the Seaside Stage, and tickets are free with racetrack admission. Children under the age of 17 may enjoy various free activities, games, and rides, while their parents are having a great time at the racetrack.

Go on a ride in a hot air balloon

Visitors to Del Mar will probably see multiple hot air balloons right above the region when dusk arrives, and there isn’t any doubt that it is a fabulous way to check out the city from up above. Year-round Del Mar balloon tours are offered by Magical Adventure Balloon Rides, and they welcome visitors to come and see one of their romantic ocean sunset balloon flights over the golf courses and elegant homes in the area.
